Words Matter – A Manifesto

Words Matter – A Manifesto

Yes, words matter, and so do deeds.

These words came to me recently during the middle of the night. I decided to put pen to paper, and by doing so help alleviate the burden of them running around inside my head and try to get some clarity in light of recent events. So, I write these words not only from my head but from my heart.

It is time to aspire again to be great, to dream and rededicate our country to being a beacon and example to all the world, a republic based on the principle of protecting the welfare of all our people’s lives.

As Americans, we are appalled at the disasters of COVID-19, racial injustice, and the perilous state of our economy. The heartbreaking plight of the American people especially workers and their families, particularly those persons in the safety, health, and education sectors is distressing.

There is a remarkably simple choice in front of us:

We can get into action NOW, regardless of political affiliation, by a personal commitment to doing the right things for the benefit of ALL our people and hold our elected representatives accountable for fulfilling their duties as embodied by their oaths of office –

OR we can continue to ignore inequities, and those who perpetrate them and let our country dwindle into the status of a 4th world nation – a has-been group of squabbling people who are focused only on our own beliefs even to the extreme of being willing to kill anyone who is different or disagrees with us.

Our actions should be based on supporting the real greatness of America – its people and our ideals – freedom, decency, honor, and the belief that our mission in life is to help one another.
